The story the numbers tell
Ace to ten: the same journey repeating in every suit.
The numbers on minor cards are not arbitrary. They describe a progression from ace to ten, and that progression is the same in all four suits. Know the number and you can approximate a card you have never seen.
The ten steps
- ACE — the seed. Pure potential, nothing has happened yet.
- TWO — duality. Choice, partnership, balance.
- THREE — the first result. Something exists now, growth begins.
- FOUR — consolidation. Stability or stagnation, and it can be either.
- FIVE — crisis. Fives are hard in every suit. Where the structure gets shaken.
- SIX — recovery. The breath after the five.
- SEVEN — the test. Patience, strategy, or illusion.
- EIGHT — movement. Speed, mastery, or departure.
- NINE — nearing the end. Solitude, satisfaction, or anxiety.
- TEN — completion. The cycle closes: either a peak or an overload.

Try it: what might the Five of Cups be? Five is crisis, Cups is feeling. An emotional crisis — loss, grief. Correct — and you worked it out without seeing the card.
What is the Five of Pentacles likely to be about?
Five is crisis, Pentacles is money and body. Their intersection.
